March 5, 2020 - H.E. Dr. Khammany Inthirath, Minister of Energy and Mines, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic presided over the ceremony to award the government medal and certificate to Nam Ngum 2 Hydroelectric Power Plant (NN2PC), a subsidiary of CK Power Public Company Limited (CKPower), represented by Mr. Vorapote Uchoepaiboonvong – former Managing Director of NN2PC, Mr. Wisate Chungwatana – who has recently been appointed as the Managing Director of NN2PC with an effective date of March 1, 2020 and Mr. Kamphuy Jirararuensak – Advisor to the Board of Directors of CKPower.The award was made to acknowledge the Company’s outstanding performance in developing Nam Ngum 2 Hydroelectric Power Plant as a world class Hydroelectric Power Plant, generating and supplying electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) The plant has an installed capacity of 615 MW and commenced operation in January, 2013.

The Nam Ngum 2 Power Hydroelectric Power Plant was awarded the concession by the Government of the Lao PDR for the design, development, construction and operation of the 615 MW Nam Ngum 2 Hydroelectric Power Plant for a period of 25 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) and will be able to generate 2,310 GWh (million units) per year. This concrete face rockfill dam (CFRD) has a crest length of 485 meters and a height of 182 meters. The construction of the Power Plant was completed 1 year and 10 months ahead of the COD which allowed the company to provide concession fees to the government of over 1,000 million baht and tax of approximately 90 million baht. Nam Ngum 2 realizes the importance of social and environment in the areas where we operate.The company has therefore put emphasis on those dimensions since pre-construction, construction and post-construction to find the right balance between economic prosperity, environmental protection and good quality of life for the local community.

In 2020, the company has planned activities for sustainable development within the community with energy saving school building and toilet construction, solar-powered pump installation and landscape improvements for Hinhuasuea Pre-elementary School in Xaysomboun Province Lao PDR which is only 25 kilometers nearby NN2PC.

In addition to the school building, there are also plans to improve the drilling of groundwater and construction support to the Office of Public Security Construction in Ban Phon Pha, which is expected to be completed in June 2020.
